All EGS events are scored as in a regular tournament. A player’s round is scored by another member of the flight he or she is playing in. The score cards are collected at the end of the round and given to the Handicap Secretary who works out who are the winners of the competition and what changes in handicap are necessary. The EGS plays the following competitions during the course of a season.
The President’s Cup
This is a 27 hole team competition (18 in the morning, 9 in the afternoon). Each team comprises two players who play off a combined handicap. The format, as in previous years, 9 holes 4 ball better ball, 9 holes Chapman fours, 9 holes “gruesome greensomes”. For full details of the tournament format and rules, click here
Strokeplay Championship
This is an 18-hole gross strokeplay competition (18 in the morning 9 in the afternoon). Every hole to be played out. Lowest number of strokes wins (i.e. no handicaps). The winner receives a trophy and a prize. Prizes also for 2nd and 3rd.
Club Championship
This competition takes place over the course of the season and is based on the best 4 Stableford scores posted during that time.
Matchplay Championship
A knockout competition that again takes place over the course of the season.
Ray Gregory’s “Scrambled Egg”
A team event, suggested by and with prizes presented by Ray Gregory. The format is Texas Scramble on the first Sunday in the calendar.
Mervyn Iles Trophy
A three club better ball stableford competition towards the end of the season in memory of our late society President Mervyn Iles
